Recipient Org: Description | St Peter’s Hospice serves the communities of North Somerset as well as Bristol and South Gloucestershire. For people nearing the end of their lives, we aim to provide the very best end-of-life care within an environment of support, comfort, compassion and respect. Our teams out in the community offer support and hands-on medical care to those who wish to remain at home; 90% of our patients choose to be cared for and die at home and we are the only Hospice offering this service to people within North Somerset. In 2022/2023 they cared for nearly 600 patients and their families across our service area. Between October 2022 and September 2023, more than 250 people from North Somerset received support from Hospice at Home. Our Inpatient Unit (IPU) in Brentry, Bristol, is a purpose-built, modern facility, designed with the patient in mind. The private rooms have options for family to stay over and all have easy access to our beautiful gardens. We also run a busy Day Services programme and offer psychological and complementary therapies. We support patients dealing with a life-limiting diagnosis regardless of their condition; last year 76% of our patients were living with cancer, 8% with respiratory conditions and the remaining number had cardiovascular and neurological conditions; 80% of patients were aged 65 and above. As well as supporting patients, we are there for the whole family, providing respite care and a 24-hour advice line, psychological and spiritual support and practical help communicating with other healthcare providers and accessing benefits. St Peter’s Hospice also plays an important role in improving the provision of palliative care across the region, offering specialist training to healthcare workers from a variety of settings. |
