Recipient Org: Description Milestones Trust is a not-for-profit organisation that supports adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs. We aim to promote health, wellbeing, independence and engagement for the client groups we support. Expressions widens participation in arts for people who would otherwise be excluded or not given the same opportunities as other artists. Our art workshops, based at our arts studio at the Trust’s office base in Staple Hill, are free and open to people supported by Milestones Trust. Louise, our Arts Coordinator, works to encourage our artists to build on their skills as the weeks progress by following a programme that she designs at the beginning of each season. The resultant works are exhibited in community settings where onlookers can purchase the artwork. It means the world to the people we support when they are told one of their pieces has been sold! Each year the team successfully deliver an extensive programme of workshops and events to over 500 people with learning disabilities and mental health needs. The people who attend our workshops learn invaluable skills – both technical and emotional – which may be transferred into other areas of their lives. We support our artists in their artistic journeys beyond Expressions and are proud to have enabled individuals to display their work in public exhibitions, giving them a platform alongside other artists.
