Recipient Org: Description Square Food Foundation (SFF) is a community kitchen and cookery school, using food and cooking to reduce hunger, improve health and bring people together. We operate from our purpose-built teaching kitchen, located at The Park Community Centre in Knowle West, Bristol. SFF works with groups of adults and children experiencing deprivation, marginalisation and barriers to opportunity, including adults with learning disabilities, low-income families, young people NEET and elderly adults at risk of loneliness and isolation. Our aim is to teach people how to cook healthy food from scratch and bring joy and confidence to our community. We support people who are at risk of, or experiencing food poverty, by teaching them to cook healthy food from scratch. Recent programmes include: - Cooking Connections: 12-week cooking course for adults with learning disabilities, building social confidence towards living independently. - Back in the Kitchen: A weekly drop-in cookery group and lunch club for people over 55, tackling isolation and loneliness. - How to be a chef: 12-week cooking course for 16-25 year olds not currently in full-time work or education, supporting them to develop a range of transferable skills towards future employment. By learning the principles of healthy eating and making changes to eating habits, participants not only improve their physical health but also their mental wellbeing. We provide a safe and welcoming environment for participants to build confidence and self-esteem, and to feel better connected to others in their community. Due to the diverse backgrounds and lived experiences of our students, we work collaboratively with referral partners and service users from the outset to tailor every course to individual class members. This ensures we can achieve targeted outcomes that are right for students’ specific and often complex needs.
