| Recipient Org: Description | Sound Women Bristol (SWB) is a Black led organisation established in 2017 as a support network, we now have over 1500 members and in Oct 2021 became a CIC. SWB was set up by women working in radio, podcast and sound technology industries who wanted to use their skills and influence to address gender and racial inequality. Our mission is to support, encourage and progress the inclusion of women at all levels from studio floor to board room, and reflects the diversity of its participating communities. Bristol is renowned as a multicultural city and yet the radio/audio/music industries are still underrepresenting global majority and working-class communities, especially women. Based in Bristol with high BAME concentration areas; Wards with more than a 14% global majority population as well as wards with high levels of inequality and deprivation, with slight changes of deprivation there are still hotspots; St Pauls, Easton, Lawrence Hill, Knowle, Hartcliffe, some of the most disadvantaged & deprived areas according to Bristol City Council report “Deprivation of Bristol 2019”. SWB enables the artistic and technical development and bringing together of women and girls through access to resources, training workshops, networking, skills sharing, and collaborative opportunities. Through its network SWB provides skilled and professional role models/mentors who actively encourage women and girls to participate and develop skills in sound and music digital technology. The community benefits by SWB providing training & safe spaces for women of all ages to come together for self-help, support and information exchange and development around gender equality in the sound technology, radio, audio and music industries. In the last 5 years, SWB network delivered to over 1500 women and girls, facilitated new sonic creative practices through mentoring and skill-sharing activities, delivered high-quality training and community events and inspired new & budding radio, audio/music creatives, |
